Keep being fabulous!
After the brief guide to an inclusive packaging design with eco-friendly materials, we created some packaging designs using Favini, Fontana Grafica/Winter & Co. and Foilco materials, inspired by the pride flags.
Admittedly, it’s a great opportunity to present a brief overview of some flags and instances of pride month and why we (still) need to celebrate it!
PROUD TO BE BISEXUAL
Bisexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior toward both men and women, or to more than one sex or gender.
While bisexuality and pansexuality have a lot of similarities, GLAAD defines bisexual as ‘being attracted to more than one gender’, whereas pansexuality as ‘all gender identities’. All isn’t the same as multiple.
The bisexual pride flag was designed by Michael Page in 1998 to give the bisexual community its symbol comparable to the gay pride flag of the larger LGBT community. He aimed to increase the visibility of bisexuals, both among society as a whole and within the LGBT community.
For our bisexual pride box, we used WELINO® FELT by Fontana Grafica/WINTER & COMPANY , Burano by Favini Cyclamin and Tyrian Purple 6657 a premium metallic foil by Foilco.
PROUD TO BE PANSEXUAL
When it comes to sexual orientation, there are a myriad ways people can identify, whether it’s homosexual, bisexual, asexual, demisexual — the list goes on.
For some people, the prospect of gender when forming a relationship or sexual attraction never comes into the equation. As a result, they may refer to themselves as being ‘pansexual’. Queer advocacy organization GLAAD broadly defines being pansexual as ‘being attracted to all gender identities, or attracted to people regardless of gender.
The pansexual pride flag consists of three colored horizontal bars: magenta, yellow, and cyan.
For our “Pansexual Pride Box” we used Fontana Grafica Brilliance color 73013 for the inner covering, Burano by Favini in Bright Yellow color for the outer covering and a brilliant Wild Pink foil by Foilco.
PROUD TO BE TRANSGENDER
Transgender people have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from the sex that they were assigned at birth. Being transgender is distinct from sexual orientation. Transgender people may identify as heterosexual (straight), homosexual (gay), bisexual, asexual, or otherwise, or may decline to label their sexual orientation.
The transgender community, organizations, and individuals are widely represented by the light blue, pink and white striped flag designed by American trans woman Monica Helms in 1999, known as the transgender pride flag. The flag’s design represents the transgender community, and consists of five horizontal stripes: two light blue, two pink, and one white in the center.
“The stripes at the top and bottom are light blue, the traditional color for baby boys. The stripes next to them are pink, the traditional color for baby girls. The stripe in the middle is white, for those who are transitioning or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined gender.
In honor of the flag, we designed a box covered with Burano by Favini in pink color, ECOREL® PURE SKIVER White by Fontana Grafica/WINTER & COMPANY and hot printed with Foilco Adventurers Blue 669 with matte finish.
