GarageITB: a packaging about touch

We played with the Sirio Color and Sirio Color Rough papers by Fedrigoni, and the result is a gorgeous tactile concept with elements that wink at sustainability.

The use of tactile elements is a way to provide another avenue to develop the brand and keep customers engaged with the product.

In order to gather information about the world around them, humans use their five senses: sight, sound, taste, smell and touch. When packaging entices customers through real or suggested sensory elements, marketers have the opportunity to appeal to customers from an additional angle.

OLD BUT GOLD

In 2020 Sirio Color by Fedrigoni turned 40 years old and is still going strong!

This range of uncoated pulp coloured papers and boards, with a smooth surface, is a classic for the packaging industry and was recently expanded with 5 new colours.

Royal Green dark green, Jasmine Natural white, Milkshake Cream white, Flamingo with pink-orange nuances and Carbon black‐free black.

Alongside, Fedrigoni unveiled Sirio Color Rough, the new range of uncoated coloured papers and boards.

The main feature is the tactile effect thanks to the rough surface. Excellent light-fastness and abrasion strength distinguish the Sirio Color range — which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

We had a lot of fun playing with all the combinations of the different finishes and colors by using smooth and rough versions, but also with color palettes for every mood and style: warm as well as cool and contemporary.

UPCYLED SHINE

We even added a shining touch with ton sur ton satin details: the indispensable elegant and refined element for a high-end packaging design.

Moreover, we followed the upcycling philosophy and used stock fabrics, adding a further “eco-friendly touch” to the project.

PLAIN OR RELIEF? BOTH!

The micro-porous surface of Sirio Color is suitable for the main printing systems: typography, offset, blind embossment, hot foil stamping and screen printing; therefore, we used 2 different hot print techniques to test the paper. One logo was printed in relief and the other one plain, to explore the different tactile finishes.
